You Have The Questions, We Have The Answers!

Many homeowners have a lot of common questions about their septic tanks. When should it be pumped, how often should it be inspected, how do I keep my tank running properly. Well here are the answers to your commonly asked questions.

Inspect It.

Much like everything else, a septic system should be inspected on a specific schedule. This is to ensure that you are getting the full amount of efficiency and that your tank is functioning properly. Depending on the type of tank your inspection could be anywhere from every 1 to 3 years.  You should be able to consult your paperwork for an estimated due date of inspection however you can always call you local septic technician to find out.

Pump It.

This also varies per household and tank. There are a variety of reasons why your tank should be pumped more than the recommended timeframe however if these circumstances do not apply to you then on average, a tank needs to be pumped every 3 to 5 years. You need to have a septic tank service company come out and check your sludge and scum layers to determine this. Typically if the top of your sludge is within a foot of the of the outlet tee then it is time.

  Prevent It.

By following these few rules you will be able to keep an efficient disposal system. Your drain field should be covered by a layer of mowed grass but otherwise keep all heavy equipment and vehicles away from it. By lessening the time you are in the shower and making the most of your lands of laundry you are able to help prevent water overload. Also, be mindful of what you flush down the toilet. Things that are plastic, napkins/paper towels and any other non biodegradable product should never be flushed. The same goes for your garbage disposal as well.    If you have any questions as to when it is time for your tank to be inspected or pumped, or if you have questions about anything else please don’t hesitate to give Millers Service a call!
