IN THE COMMUNITY
Miller’s Services has been serving the Middle Peninsula for over 45 years and it’s all thanks to our community. Our team operates under the “Giver’s Gain” philosophy, so we strive to always give back to the ones that help us grow! Over the years, Miller’s Services has made a variety of contributions to different causes that support our local community. Many of our efforts are ongoing, taking place year after year, while others are opportunities that arise based off of the community’s immediate needs. Check out some of our best “in the community” projects over the years.
Bread For Life Pantry Donation
In October and November of 2016 and 2017, Miller’s Services held a Fall Food Drive. We partnered with several local businesses to collect donations for the Bread for Life Pantry. The pantry assists families in making full meals and providing personal and baby items that may not be covered under Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Programs.
“There is nothing more rewarding than giving back and making a difference in the lives of people in this great community”
In August of 2016, we began our annual “Back to School” contest to ease the transition back to school for parents and teachers. We know this can be a difficult time for some parents and teachers may lack supplies they need. Year after year, our team had given away Visa gift cards to multiple parents for the purchase of school supplies, as well as Visa gift cards and a basket of school supplies to several teachers to stock their classrooms.
In December of 2017, we began our most successful community donation effort that we continued in 2018. The holidays can be difficult for some families and children do not always have the opportunity to experience the magic of Christmas. We decided to change that! Our team collects nominations for families in need of Christmas gifts, we reach out to the families to get to know the types of things their children would be interested in and then we go shopping!
In February of 2019, we celebrated the community’s love of pets by donating $1,000 to the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society. GMHS takes in animals from Gloucester and Mathews, with the hopes of adopting them all out to new families. Our donation helped to provide medical needs and food for several types of animals.
In October of 2019, we encouraged our customers to make donations to the Giving Garden Foundation, at the end of the month, our team matched the total donation amount – for a total donation amount of $1,600. The Giving Garden Foundation cultivates advocacy for cancer patients residing in Gloucester and Mathews.
Owners Jamie and Ashley Miller stopped by the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office to find out how they could help with 2019’s Shop With A Cop program. Each year, the GCSO hosts Shop With A Cop, a one-day shopping event where children from less fortunate families are paired with a local cop to take a shopping trip at the Gloucester Walmart and pick out gifts that they might otherwise not have. This year, Miller’s donated $3,500 to the cause to make sure our local children got the Christmas they deserved. Much of the team also volunteered on the day of to wrap gifts, assist the cops, parents, and children, and be involved in the program.
While 2020 was quite a year for businesses and individuals all around, that didn’t stop Miller’s from giving back to the community – when they needed it most. During November and December, Miller’s Services collected unused and unopened toys as part of the Toys for Tots drive. Their office served as a drop box location for employees, customers, and the community to bring in toys for children who may not otherwise have a special Christmas.
