Having annual maintenance and inspections performed on your septic system is similar to having an annual inspection on your car. It is important to maintain and be proactive about your septic system in order to prevent future problems that may jeopardize your household and the environment. Annual maintenance will ensure that all components of your system are functioning properly, just as an annual vehicle inspection ensures that all parts of the vehicle are safe and working. Maintaining a relationship with a licensed provider and having regular inspections ensures you are compliant with all state regulations as well. Most importantly, you can rest easy knowing your system is taken care of!
Regulations became effective on December 7, 2011, pertaining to the operations and maintenance of Alternative Onsite Sewage Systems (AOSS). These regulations require that all alternative septic systems be maintained and inspected annually by a DPOR licensed operator and that maintenance be provided based on individual manufacturer specifications for varying systems.
Absolutely! A Septic Membership is a great idea for any type of system, especially if there are pumps and controls as part of your system. You’ll know ahead of time when the system is due for pumping without having to track this yourself. While there is currently no requirement to report annual maintenance on a conventional system, you can have peace of mind knowing your system is in good shape and that you won’t be facing any unexpected, costly repairs!
