How Does an Air Conditioner Work?
The majority of air conditioning units work in the same fundamental way – by removing humidity from the air while cooling your surroundings at the same time. A chemical, called a refrigerant, will travel through a series of steps, beginning inside the home, around to the outside and back inside again, all while absorbing and expelling heat in the process. During this process, the chemical refrigerant used will transition from a gas to a liquid and back to a gas. Your basic air conditioner will have four main parts: an evaporator, a compressor, a condenser, and an expansion device. Working similar to a circuit, the air takes a continuous route through the air conditioner to deliver comfort for your home.
How To Tell If Your Air Conditioner Needs Repair
The key to understanding when a system in your home needs an ac repair is being in tune with how it works and how it normally runs. Here are some common signs that your air conditioner could need repair:
- You notice warm air coming out of your vent
- You hear unusual noises coming from your air conditioner
- Your air conditioner seems to be running longer or more frequently
- You notice a water leak
- A bad odor is emanating from the system
- Inaccurate thermostat readings
- There seems to be increased humidity in the home
- An overall appearance of poor airflow
If you notice your air conditioner is not running quite right or you notice one or more of the symptoms above, contact us to schedule an appointment for an AC repair.
